The ODM party has raised concern over the rise in the number of youth disappearing in Coast region especially in Mombasa.
Kenya's largest opposition party on Monday said the government should carry out an audit and establish the exact number of youth who have mysteriously disappeared in the region and investigate reasons for their abduction.
The party, at the same time, pointed a finger at the government saying its continued silence may be interpreted to mean its security and investigative agencies are responsible for the youth's disappearances.
"ODM is concerned at the spate of disappearances and abduction of young people, especially in the Coast region," the party said in a statement after a National Executive Committee and Parliamentary Group meeting convened by party leader Raila Odinga at the Flamingo Beach Resort in Mombasa.
"This in our view is a ploy by some State agencies to instill fear in the peace loving people of this region. We demand an immediate stop to this and call for an investigation on the past disappearances."
The party last year in the run up to the August 8 general election accused State agencies of running a program that involved abducting youth in Coast because of the region's support for opposition chief Raila Odinga.
The region says it will field a presidential candidate during the 2022 presidential election.
