A section of ODM supporters from Kitutu Chache South Constituency yesterday announced publicly their abandonment of NASA leader Raila Odinga to join bitter rivals Jubilee.
The over 4,500 supporters of Hon Omwando accused the opposition leader, Raila of frustrating their leader during the just completed by-election in the constituency.
The demonstrating group highlighted that the party leadership had ignored them and as such, they had decided to move to another party that will recognize their interests.
National Super Alliance (NASA) leader ditched ODM candidate during the by-election in support of Ford Kenya’s candidate Richard Onyonka in a move to ensure the defeat of competitive Jubilee candidate. NASA explained that they required backing one strong candidate and that’s why they chose Onyonka over Mr. Omwando.
Onyonka and Kibagendi were seen as frontrunners in a low voter turnout election that saw Ford Kenya Onyonka win by 10,122 votes followed Kibagendi of Jubilee who obtained 5,074 votes.
The aggrieved ODM candidate gathered 4,324 votes and closed in the third position.
“We have been faithful to NASA and their leaders for years but now they have decided to frustrate us. We also want them to feel this pain and now we are going to work with the Government,” said Anthony Mugendi a supporter of Hon. Omwando.
