The Orange Democratic Party has suspended seven members from the NASA parliamentary group.
The members comprising mainly MCAs are said to have defied the party's order in the election of the Migori County Assembly Speaker which was held on February 12.
According to Migori parliamentary group chair Abraham Kagali, the suspended members failed to vote for Boaz Okoth. Okoth clinched the Speaker’s seat during the repeat election.
Kagali added that the seven lawmakers had been given 14 days to show cause why they should not be expelled from the party.
"We had a meeting as the NASA coalition and agreed to front the current Migori county assembly speaker Boaz Okoth. The seven betrayed our decision, therefore, they have to face action from the coalition,” he said.
The High Court had ordered a repeat of the Speaker election after the disputed election of Mr. Okoth in August last year wasmarred by chaos
A section of MCAs have come out to condemn the action.
