The ODM party has began laying ground to expel Governors, Senators and MPs who have decamped to the Jubilee Party.
In a Tuesday statement, the party said all affected politicians will have to respond within seven days why they chose to decamp from the orange party.
"The Disciplinary Committee of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has written to 13 members of the party who have publicly declared their defection to another political party to show-cause why they should not be deregistered from the party," the statement said.
The affected members include Governors Ukur Yatani (Marsabit) and Salim Mvurya (Kwale).
Others are Zainabu Chidzuga (Kwale Women Rep), Joash Maangi (Deputy Governor Kisii County), Steven Kariuki (MP Mathare), Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East), Gideon Mung’aro, MP Kilifi North, Mustafa Iddi, MP Kilifi South and Cyprian Kubai (Igembe Central).
Isaac Mwaura (nominated MP), James Rege (Karachuonyo), Samuel Arama (Nakuru Town West) and John Waluke, MP Sirisia have also received the letters.
ODM Disciplinary Committee Chairman Fred Athuok in the letters cited section 14(5) C of the Political Parties Act as having been violated by the action of the affected politicians.
"The letters have been sent to individual members via registered post and are expected to respond in writing within seven days failure to which, the Committee shall recommend to the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) that such members be expelled from the party for violating the Law and the Constitution of the party," the statement further said.
"In effecting the expulsion, necessary steps will be taken with the respective County, Parliamentary/Senate Speakers and the IEBC to declare the seats vacant and necessitate by-elections."
Most of the party affected have hinted that they will work with the Jubilee administration.
