Among the ten expelled were Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba, Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, Nominated MP Isaac Mwaura and Sirisia MP John Waluke.

ODM reached the decision during the party’s governing council on October 31 but the expelled members appealed through lawyer Kioko Kilukumi.

The lawyer asked the party to convene a special session of the National Governing Council(NGC).

In reply to Kilukumi's letter on Friday, party secretary general Agnes Zani asked the affected members to file individual, written submissions not later than November 10.

ODM formally wrote to the Registrar of Political Parties chair Lucy Ndung’u on the expulsion of the rebels asking for the immediate removal of their names from the members register.

Executive director Oduor Ong'wen further asked the national and county assembly speakers copied in the letter to declare the rebels' seats vacant.

Some of the MPs aplogised to ODM leader Raila Odinga and the party for defecting to President Uhuru Kenyatta's newly launched Jubilee Party.

The committee forgave Marsabit Governor Ukur Yatani and Igembe Central MP Cyprian Kubai.
