Orange Democratic Party is expected to pick names of members who will sit in the new Public Accounts Committee, following the disbandment of its precursor, choked to death by corruption allegations.
The National Executive Council met at Maanzoni Lodge, Machakos County to settle on the individual who will chair the powerful watchdog committee
ODM communications officer Philip Etale has said they will suggest and forward the names of those to represent the party in the committee.
Among those who have shown interest in the committee leadership is Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, his Funyula counterpart Paul Otuoma, Ugunja legislator Opiyo Wandai, Abdi Kadir Aden of Mbalambala and Tongaren MP on Ford Kenya party ticket Eseli Simiyu.
The committee, previously chaired by Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba has been disbanded on the recommendation of Parliament’s Powers and Privileges Committee.
The Public Accounts Committee is being re-commissioned afresh, after corruption allegations marred the defunct one that was headed by ODM secretary general Ababu Namwamba.
The allegations have seen ODM split over the suspension and investigation of corruption allegations in the National Assembly’s Public Accounts.
During the meeting, youth and women leagues are expected to present their reports on how to strengthen the party.
