Opposition party ODM has criticized President Uhuru Kenyatta over his attack on Raila Odinga during the Jubilee Party National Delegates Convention on Friday.
This is after President Uhuru accused the Cord leader of thriving on poverty and division of Kenyans.
In a statement signed by Secretary General Agnes Zani, ODM stated that the comments by President Uhuru should be treated with utmost contempt.
“The whole meeting, called ostensibly to name hand-picked national officials, turned into personalized attacks on ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga, with utterances that, if not for the fact that they were uttered by the President and his Deputy warranted to be treated with utmost contempt,” read the statement.
The statement added that the sentiments could lead to post-election violence as witnessed in 2008
“The two should constantly remind themselves that it is the same toxic language, laced with ethnic undertones and delivered in bitter but empty jingoism that led to the 2007/08 post-election violence.”
The party further cautioned Jubilee to avoid running campaigns based on hate and bigotry.
“President Kenyatta and his Deputy should stop running a campaign of hate and bigotry. Kenyans continue to pull themselves out of the orgies of the 2007/08 post-election violence and the two should desist from utterances that can only lead to another round of violence,” the statement added.
