A powerful committee constituting of youths from Nyamira County has been constituted by the ODM party to recruit more members and rally youths to register as voters.
This comes at a time when the country’s largest single party is quietly reaching out to youths in its strongholds with the aim of having them registered ahead of 2017 general election.
On Friday, ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire, through his political allies, launched the campaign in Kemera ward that will target youths from the four constituencies in the region.
“The main reason why we are here is to drum up support for our party," said Alex Abuga, chairman of the group.
"Since it is founded on principles of democracy and servant leadership, we want to reach many youths from Nyamira ahead of 2017.”
He said they will target more than 300,000 people in a bid to increase the number of registered voters from 350,000 to around 600,000.
“The figure could be even higher because I believe we have so many people who have not registered. This is the only way we can take over government in the next election,” he added.
The said similar campaigns will be launched in ODM strongholds, especially in Nyanza, Western and Costal regions.
Nyamira County is predominantly ODM but in the recent days, county Governor John Nyagarama has expressed his desire to work with Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee coalition.
