The ODM party has filed a suite, challenging a new election law, that requires political parties and aspirants to disclose details of their campaign financing accounts.
Through lawyer Antony Oluoch, ODM argued that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC) had no legal mandate to publish election campaign guidelines.
The party also opposed the Commission's decision to publish the laws on its website and submit them to the respective the National Assembly, saying it was unfair to the political parties and candidates seeking various elective posts.
ODM now wants IEBC blocked from implementing the law, until the case is heard and determined.
Citing Article 88 section (4) (i) of the Constitution which allows it to regulate the amount of money that may be spent by a candidate or political party in any election, IEBC directed political parties, candidates and political party financing committees to submit details of the campaign financing account as per Section 6 of the Election Campaign Financing Act, 2013.
Most of the aspirants and political parties submitted the details a week ago.
