Opposition party ODM has warned the Jubilee administration against outlawing mass action and protests after elections.
Speaking on Tuesday at Orange House, Director of Political Affairs and Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi argued that banning of protests amounted to a breach of the constitution, adding that the Opposition Party will not accept rigged polls.
“Mass action is part of picketing and we will not allow the Jubilee administration to misinterpret the Constitution and serve individual interests of the few,” he said.
“Peace is unending and we will also work hard to ensure the election process achieves its goals. We want Kenyans to get leaders they elect. No one should impose a leader on taxpayers,” he added.
Wandayi was reacting to media reports that the state was contemplating to pass laws that would criminalise mass action after announcement of election results.
He further cautioned the government against threatening and intimidating Opposition leaders.
"Don’t scare us with stupid announcements, when we have a new good Constitution recognising democracy, good leadership and the role of all institutions meant to serve wananchi,” he noted.
