Mvita MP Abdulwasmad Nassair has said that Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party will field a presidential candidate in the 2022 general election signaling that the party is no longer keen on the National Super Alliance (NASA).

Speaking in an interview on KTN on Thursday, Nassir confirmed that Raila's party is focused on growing its popularity ahead of 2022.

He said that the party will field a powerful candidate able to succeed president Uhuru Kenyatta.

The lawmaker confirmed that the party is no longer focused on NASA affairs .

He said that NASA is an outfit of affiliate parties that have freedom and rights to concentrate on their own affairs.

"In 2022 we will field a strong presidential candidate who will take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta," he said during the interview.

Nassir said that ODM remains the most popular party in the country.

There have been claims that Raila is likely to contest for presidency in 2022 on ODM ticket.

A section of ODM politicians have openly distanced themselves from the NASA coalition that political analysts argue is on the verge of collapsing.

A month ago, Raila met with President Uhuru Kenyatta and agreed to unite the country.

Their meeting has elicited speculation with claims that Raila could be seeking  Uhuru's political blessings to contest in 2022.
