Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominated senator Agnes Zani has dismissed claims that the Orange party will collapse following the resignation of secretary general Ababu Namwamba.
Zani while being interviewed on Citizen TV on Sunday said that ODM will remain strong even without Ababu Namwamba.
The nominated senator said that ODM has other energetic leaders who will push party agenda forward.
“Those claiming that ODM is nothing without Namwamba are in for a rude shock because ODM will remain strong,” she said on Citizen TV.
Senator Zani who once showed interest in ODM secretary general post before the seat was given to Namwamba, said ODM is the most popular party in the country and that nothing will make it fall.
Namwamba, who is the Budalangi MP resigned from the secretary general’s post last week citing frustrations from top leaders.
The exit of Namwamba has been cited as a major setback to the Orange party that is currently experiencing rifts among its leaders and members.
Party vice chairman Paul Otuoma also resigned last week. On Sunday ODM Bungoma chairman and Sirisia MP John Waluke resigned from his post.
Other leaders who have decamped from the Orange party include nominated MP Isaac Mwaura who was a staunch supporter of Raila Odinga.
ODM leader Raila odinga last week accused Jubilee government of buying opposition members.
Raila claimed that Jubilee was using stolen government funds to buy opposition members views shared by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka who claims that Jubilee is out to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2017 polls.
