The ODM and Wiper parties have been asked to nominate seven more candidates for the slots of the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA).
The parliamentary committee's directive now gives room to legislators who had protested the parties' decision of naming five members, to exercise their freedom.
The committee further directed clerks of the Senate and the National Assembly to set aside a date to receive and process the additional applicants to the regional assembly.
“The submission of the bare minimum of nominess would not provide Members of Parliament an opportunity to conduct an election as required under article 50 of the treaty and as determined by the court,” said the committee in a report tabled in the Natinal Assemby by one of its heads, Katoo Ole Mitito.
National Assembly Majority leader, Aden Duale, had on Tuesday requested speakers of the Assembly and Senate to make a decision concerning the Opposition's five nominees saying their appointments were unlawful.
