A number of leaders allied to Orange Democratic Movement have showered praises to party youth supporters for ‘protecting’ votes in Wednesdays Nyacheki by-election where the party’s candidate Naphtali Onkoba emerged a winner after garnering 2216 votes.
The ODM youths stayed vigil throughout the day frisking everywhere entering polling stations and whisked a number of Jubilee allied MPs among them Richard Onyonka and Stephen Manoti over alleged voter bribery.
Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba, Alice Chae (Nyamira) and Governor James Ongwae of Kisii were unanimous that the youths deserved credit for executing their responsibilities ‘well’.
“I don’t know how I can reward our youths but you have made the party proud for protecting our votes. You have been vigil all the day by ensuring that transparency carried the day and I am grateful for that,” said Bosire.
“The spirit in you reflects that ODM party has genuine volunteers and that we are alert to protect our votes in 2017. This is the right way to go and I am very thankful for the coordination I have seen,” added Chae.
On his part, Governor James Ongwae said the coordination shown among the youths showed their maturity in politics and challenged them to go for leadership positions.
“Most of you have been updating us throughout the day and the kind of job you did today has shown that youth are ready for leadership,” he said.
