The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has congratulated Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, after the Court of Appeal upheld his August 8 re-election.
The court ruled in favor of the Orange party legislator, quashing an earlier ruling by the High Court ruling which had annulled his victory in agreement with his main challenger in the race Francis Murithi of the ruling Jubilee Party in March.
In his ruling, Justice Joseph Sergon had cited massive electoral malpractices as the reason for Owino's election nullification.
In a tweet Friday, moments after the new ruling, the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga-led side welcomed the judgment, confirming its pride in the young leader.
The party advised Owino to concentrate on seriously serving his constituents going forward.
''We congratulate the Hon. Babu Owino following a successful Appeal on the nullification of his election as MP for Embakasi East Constituency by the High Court in March this year. The ODM Party is proud of you. Now get down to serious business of working for your people,'' read the tweet.
On his part, Mureithi stated that he will consult with his lawyers to find a way forward.
