Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama is in panic over the party he should use for re-election in 2017 polls, a source close to the governor has revealed.

Nyagarama was elected on an Orange Democratic ticket, but has since fallen out with the party’s top leadership from the region led by Timothy Bosire, and his intention to move to Jubilee party was jeopardised following the entry of Former Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati to the gubernatorial race.

According to the source, the governor has found himself in an unfamiliar position given ODM and JAP are the major parties with a huge population believed to be voting of party basis.

“Things are not going well with Mzee (Nyagarama). He has been accused of disloyalty within the ODM party and it’s likely that he won’t be given the ticket and that’s a major concern for him,” the source said.

“He was optimistic of getting a Jubilee ticket but now Nyambati is out to compete and we all know that he enjoys Jubilee support. Its worrying given that most of electorates sometimes vote along party lines and those are the two popular parties,” added the source.

The source also revealed that Nyagarama is due to meet top Orange party officials in Nairobi after the Meru conference to discuss his future before he makes the next move.

“We all know that the Orange party favours Mochama (Charles), but Mzee has already booked an appointment with Orange party officials in Nairobi after the Meru summit to discuss his future before making any announcement,” said the source who spoke on condition of anonymity since he is not authorised to speak on behalf of the governor.

Last week, a group of angry ODM Youths from the county demanded resignation of Youth league leaders on grounds that they had hosted Nyagarama, whom they accuse of being disloyal to the party.
