Opposition supremo Raila Odinga and his Nakuru ally Koigi wa Wamwere have in most occasions, despite at times taking different political routes, end up in the same political vehicle.

The two share several similarities including making history as the longest serving political detainees in Kenya, with Odinga leading, after spending nine years behind bars, under retired President Daniel Moi's rule.

Koigi was also in and out of the dark rooms under both Presidents Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel Moi, in the 80's, as a result of his "rebellious and troublesome" nature.

Ahead of the 2003 presidential contest, when Odinga not only rallied support for President Mwai Kibaki but also shelved his presidential ambitions just to spearhead Moi's ouster, Koigi was also in the same bandwagon and had vowed to only shave his dreadlocks upon Moi's exit.

The two are currently together in the opposition. This is despite Koigi initially joining hands with President Uhuru Kenyatta and even dissolving his Chama Cha Mwananchi into the bigger Jubilee party.

The former Subukia lawmaker later joined the Odinga-led National Super Alliance (NASA) block after failing to secure the Jubilee ticket to vie for the Nakuru Senatorial post.

Known for his anti-Jubilee policies, Koigi is popular for his scathing attacks and condemnations against the government, a characteristic also shared by the former Prime Minister.

The two, therefore, are a good example of leaders who share the same fate and will seemingly end up on the same side after every political period.
