The residents of Ofafa Estate in Thika have decried the lack of basic social amenities like water and sanitation in the last few weeks.
They say that the supply of water in the estate has been irregular leading them to depend on water vendors while sanitation state is despicable.
"We do not know what has been happening since early October because water has been irregular and sometimes coming once in a week and mostly late at night," Francis Muriu, a resident said on Friday.
They believe that it is a scheme by the county government to frustrate tenants living in the condemned county houses in order to vacate.
"If the county government wants the tenants living in their houses to vacate, it should do so without inflicting suffering to the rest of the estate residents," said Elias Ihururia, another resident.
The residents claim that the garbage is rarely collected and open sewer has been left to flow unattended for weeks.
"The stench that emanates from this place is horrible. Getting some fresh air comes as a relief," said Josphine Waithera.
However, an official at the Thika sub-county environment department identified as Christine Wambui said that they were unaware of the situation.
"As the county government we don't directly collect garbage at people's homes. We have contracted garbage collectors who do the work and tenants pay a little fee to them," said Wambui.
Thika Water and Sewerage Company could not be reached to comment on the water and sewer problem.
