An administration police officer attached to Machakos police station was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly beating a civilian to death.
The officer identified as Paul Nzulu is said to have committed the crime after differing with Belison Wambua over payment for clearing a bush around his house.
Machakos police boss Joseph Tenai confirmed the incident and said an argument ensued between the officer and the deceased leading to a fight.
"The two argued for some time before the officer picked a log and hit the man on the head, killing him on the spot," said Tenai.
Tenai said the officer will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed to face murder charges.
According to the officer's colleagues, he has a history of assaulting people.
"This officer has not been of good character. It is not the first time he is being accused of attacking civilians," said one of the colleague who requested for anonymity.
