A Kiambu Court has ordered the release of a police officer charged with defiling a 15-year-old girl.

Gatundu Senior principal magistrate Laeticia Wachira ordered that Constable Paul Rotich is released on bond after denying the defilement charges before the court.

Rotich was being accused of allegedly defiling the minor on January 14, 2017 at the Gatundu police station.

In the first count, the accused was charged with unlawfully and intentionally sexually assaulted the minor and in the second count, he was charged with indecently touching the minor.

The court heard that the accused person defiled the minor who was being detained in one of the police cells.

The minor and her 14-year-old cousin had been taken to the station by their parents on accusations of indiscipline.

The accused person on the material date is said to have removed the Form Two student from the cells at 5 am to perform some duties within the station.

Following the heinous act, the minor reported the issue to other officers who then took her to Gatundu Level Four Hospital before arresting the officer.

The accused person, however, denied the charges before the court and filed an application to be released on bond pending the next case hearing.

Magistrate Wachira granted the application and released him on a Sh200,000 bond with a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of Sh100,000.
