David Chumo, a traffic policeman based at Bomet police station, has been feted as the most incorruptible, humane officer and public servant of the year.

The Commission of Administrative Justice (CAJ) acknowledged Corporal Chumo for undertaking his duties with trustworthiness and selflessness.

Speaking during the Ombudsman Huduma Awards at the KICC, CAJ Acting chairperson, Regina Mwatha described Chumo as the epitome of what the police service was all about.

"You have undertaken your duties with honesty and integrity, demonstrating that it is possible to live honorably and serve as a traffic police officer," Mwatha said.

She further applauded him for arresting poachers who pose a threat to tourism industry in the country.

"You have courageously confronted these issues despite the dangers involved for the love of your country. You have put your life at risk to offer your services to the people of Kenya," she added.

On his part, Chumo noted that for the past 18 years his main challenges were refusing to receive bribes from motorists and mockery by suspicious members of the public.

Assistant commissioner of prisons in charge of Lang'ata Women's Maximum Prison, Olivia Obel, came second after Chumo.

She was recognised for introducing child-friendly prison areas which have helped in reduction of despair among children whose parents are in jail.

"The sanctuaries provide a home setting within the prisons where inmates interact with their children. You have introduced remote parenting, a concept that gives inmates opportunities, through open days, to interact and follow their children's progress," Mwatha noted
