Thika Public Health Officer Dr James Njuguna has called upon hotel owners and business people who deal with pork, to make sure the meat is properly cooked before serving it to their customers.
The officer was talking when he made a sudden check in different cafes and meat points in Thika town earlier Sunday morning.
He said that pork meat is one of the most dangerous if not properly cooked, and thus the business people must keep their clients safe by making sure that the meat is fully cooked.
The officer went ahead to advise that for roast meat, the process must be done for at least an hour, and if fried, it should take at least half an hour.
“Roasting pork is very complicated and it needs someone very keen on his job, this is because the meat can deceive you to have been ready but it’s still raw,” said Dr Njuguna.
The meat takes at least an hour to be ready while roasting and takes at least half an hour when fried. Make sure your customers get quality meat that is healthy for their health,” added Dr Njuguna.
“This is not only to pork but also for other types of meat, please let us keep the towns’ standards high. This goes to the people who sell Mutura along the streets, please make sure what you serve to your customers meets health standards,” addec Dr Njuguna.
The health officer was also accompanied by the Red Cross society of Kenya Thika branch, who made the business people understand the importance of keeping their kitchen clean and staying safe and free from suffocation while in the kitchen through properly aerated kitchens.
