The cases of defilement in Gatundu North sub-county are on the rise, a child officer has reported.

James Irungu, an officer at Gatukuyu, expressed concern at the rising cases of defilement, incest and sodomy in the area.

Speaking on Tuesday in his office, Irungu asked relevant government authorities and stop cases of defilement of minors and incest, which he observed have reached alarming levels.

"It is worrying that children are being abused while culprits go unpunished," he said.

The officer noted that from March to December last year, 15 defilement-related cases were reported.

"In December alone, four cases of minors defiled were reported to my office," Irungu said, attributing drug and substance abuse to the vice.

On Sunday, a tout at Gatukuyu shopping centre was arrested for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl.

The middle-aged man was further accused of detaining the minor for two days.
