Speaking on Tuesday during the ongoing police vetting in Nakuru, Dennis Kirui cited numerous transfers as his number one challenge as a police officer.

“If by any chance I find myself at 18, I wouldn't join the forces due to the frequent transfers. In a span of two years I am transferred like three times which makes me be away from my family,” Kirui told the panel.

Kirui who appeared before the Mary Owuor led panel further said officers have been working under harsh conditions and tight commitment which has denied them time for family.

“It is very hard for one to be promoted despite the efforts we apply. Poor remuneration has also played a big role in making officers solicit for bribes from members of the public to meet their needs,” Kirui added.

Responding to Kirui's sentiments, commissioner Mary Owuor of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) told him that there is no profession without its challenges.

“Even the teachers or the hotelier have their challenges. There is no single profession without challenges,” Owuor said.
