An Administration Police officer in Mundoro, Gatundu South spent a night at the Gatundu police station for hitting a disabled man.
The AP officer allegedly badly hit and injured the handicapped man who was begging at the Mundoro market. The officer was allegedly drinking the whole day when he decided to go and solicit money from businessmen in the market before he met the man and hit him with his walking stick.
Those who witnessed the incident threatened to deal with him if legal action was not taken against him.
“We are very disappointed by this officer. If he is the person entrusted to protect us, and here he is beating up even handicapped people, of what use is he?” asked Reuben Kamau, a clothes seller in the market.
“We want him transferred from this area immediately. He must also desist from harassing innocent people. He is used to terrorising people especially when he finds them drinking and here he is very drunk. Is there alcohol allowed for policemen that is illegal for civilians?” Lucy Wanjiku, a businesslady questioned.
“He drinks when he wants and does not follow the law. He even arrests those he has been drinking with,” she added.
The injured man is now recuperating at Gatundu hospital as the officer awaits to be charged in court.
The OCS at the Gatundu Police Station confirmed the incident saying investigations are underway. He however could not comment on the matter as he allegedly is not authorised to do so.
