The first witness, a bar operator told the court that the officer, Police Constable Alexander Kipyegomen, went to her pub at 11pm on the day that he is alleged to have lost his firearm.

The court heard that the officer drank five bottles of Balozi drink before leaving the pub at around 6am.

The bar operator said she has known officer Kipyegomen for more than one year since he was her customer.

“When Alexander came to my bar, he was in civilian clothes and he did not have his firearm with him,” she said.

Constable Kipyegomen attached to Likoni Police Station is alleged to have lost by neglect a G3 rifle loaded with 20 round of ammunition.

The accused person is said to have committed the offence between 3 and 4 June at Likoni police station within Mombasa County.

Mr Kipyegomen who is out on a cash bail of Sh20,000 has denied the charges before Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Edgah Kagoni.

The second witness, who was assigned duties with the accused said they were assigned to guard Likoni police station from 6pm to 6am but officer Kipyegomen excused himself at about 10pm only to come back in the morning.

The magistrate ordered for the case to continue on June 29 when other witnesses are expected to testify.
