Police officers working in the volatile areas and counties bordering Somalia will receive a salary increment as from September this year.
This is according to a newsletter by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).
The salaries of state security officers will be harmonised to match with those of other public civil servants.
The new pay deal will comprise of 14 salary grades catering for the subsequent police ranks from the lowest paid police constable to the high ranking Inspector General.
The newsletter further read that the new salaries will be fully based on risks in areas of assignment, responsibilities and skills, with the greatest beneficiaries being officers stationed at the Garissa, Wajir, Mandera and Lamu counties which have in the recent past recorded a series of terror attacks.
In the recent past, several uniformed officers have been on record for allegedly breaking their law, a fact that has been widely blamed on work place frustrations.
Close to a month ago, officers in Mandera and Garissa suspended armed escort to PSV vehicles plying the routes citing heightened risks that was a threat to their lives.
