Garissa Deputy Sub County Commissioner Dominic Kyenza and Garissa NCPB government stores clerk Abdullahi Ahmed have been arraigned in court for ‘stealing’ relief food.
The two were accused of fraudulently acquiring and disposing public property and lying about it.
They are said to have acquired 272 bags of rice to be distributed to a children's centre in Garissa on November 12 and14, 2014.
Garissa Chief Magistrate Mary Wachira released them on a cash bail of Sh 50,000 each or a bond of Sh 100,000 or surety of similar amount.
The case, which was set to be heard on Friday 22, has been postponed to August 4 and 5 2015 due to unavailability of a magistrate to handle it.
Addressing journalists at his Garissa office on Monday, regional head of Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Abraham Kemboi said that cases of relief food theft are rampant in the area and some parts of Coast Region.
"Theft of relief food has become a serious concern to the government especially in the Northern and Coastal Regions of Kenya," said Kemboi.
