Nyumba Kumi officials operating in Nyamira County have been commended for their good work they are doing in deep villages.
According to Nyamira County commissioner Isaiah Nakoru, the Nyumba Kumi officials in the county have been doing a commendable job than local chiefs.
Nakoru said despite the frustrations by chiefs, Nyumba Kumi officials have managed to stop crime such as theft of chicken in deep villages which chiefs were unable to do.
"I wish to say that since the Nyumba Kumi initiative came, theft in villages has dropped because the officials have been working tirelessly to ensure residents are safe with their property but chiefs have been demanding bribes to solve cases at their offices,” he said.
The county chief said he prefers working with the officials from deep villages unlike the chiefs whose integrity is questionable.
“I will not be wrong to say that I prefer working with Nyumba Kumi officials than chiefs who are lazy, corrupt only interested in bribes. I may accept to work with chiefs if they change their bad ways of solving cases though the bribery claims among chiefs are being investigated and any chief who will be found guilty will have to face the law,” he added.
