Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has warned security personnel attached to Cord leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula against accompanying them during their demonstrations.
Boinnet said on Thursday that security officers attached to the leaders risk being sacked if they accompany them during protests to evict IEBC commissioners from office.
The IG said the demonstrations being called by Cord leaders are illegal and that any involvement of their security officers will not be taken lightly.
“We have sent a circular to all security personnel attached to VIPs and especially Cord leaders against joining them in their illegal demonstrations, any contravention of this directive will lead to disciplinary action on the part of the security officers,” said Boinnet during a press briefing at Vigilance House on Thursday.
MPs Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete), Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Alice Nga’ng’a (Thika) and Dennis Waweru (Dagoretti South) on Thursday said they will move to court for Cord leaders to be charged with treason.
On Monday, Cord leaders' move to storm IEBC offices in Nairobi were thwarted after they were tear-gassed by anti-riot police.
Cord has since called on its supporters to camp at IEBC offices every Tuesday until the commissioners resign.
