Kingori cited that this will enable them to start a crackdown on the matatus that were exposing their users to dangerous health risks.

His views came a day after residents claimed that the matatus need to be fumigated due to the presence of pests like lice, bedbugs and fleas.

“We are calling on the residents to give us the names of such matatus so that we can report them to their Saccos and ensure that they spear head the clean up exercise,” said King’ori.

He was speaking in his office where he called on drivers and touts to ensure that their hygiene is well maintained.

King’ori said that matatu operators should put the interest of their users first adding that it is uncomfortable and unhealthy to be transported in a vehicle that is stinking and stuffy.

The officer called on the Matatu Owners Sacco to investigate the claims of dirty vehicles.

“They should keep in touch with their workers and often carry out inspections when they are least expected. This will ensure that the drivers are kept on toes,” advised King’ori.

He also called on the public to give any information regarding poor health practices in the area.
