Governor John Nyagarama’s administration is being unfairly targeted by political operatives in the county, a senior government official has said.

According to Nyamira Director of Communications Samwel Born Maina, the county serves as a classic example of what devolution has done for ordinary people at the grassroots.

"Look at our bridges, look at our roads, look at the agricultural sector,” Mr Maina said, citing a modern bridge that links Itongo Sengera and Nyasumi which was recently built by the Governor John Nyagarama’s county government after realising that it posed dangers to people crossing.

“You remember last year we held a successful World Food Day event in Nyamira. They chose us because of the strides we have made in that sector," Mr Maina said.

He added that the current criticism targeting Governor John Nyagarama is being fuelled by political opponents who are seeking governor's position in next year’s polls.

"Those who keep saying they represent the youth are liars out to confuse the youth of Nyamira. They do not see the several programmes we have initiated for the youth. They forget that we have set aside Sh60 million to employ youths with no jobs,” the communications director in the governor’s office said.

“One of them was audacious enough to criticise the programme, saying it targeted the illiterate. Primarily, he was abusing thousands of youth who never got a chance to go to school," Mr Maina added.
