The office of the Registrar of Persons in Subukia sub-county is investigating a case where one of its staff is allegedly demanding bribes from people applying for national identification cards.

It is alleged that one of the officials has been asking money from people in the pretext of assisting them get IDs and eventually disappearing with their money.

The Registrar of Persons in charge of Subukia Anastaciah Kituli while speaking to this writer over the phone, said they have received numerous complaints from the public and they have already started investigations into the matter.

“The said officer has been suspended after a disciplinary action was taken against him following cases of misconduct from the public. He was initially stationed at Mbogoini Division, and then moved to Subukia before he was suspended in January this year,” Mrs Kituli said.

She urged the public to be on the look out and not fall prey to such con men saying services offered by her office are free of charge.

At the same time the Registrar of Persons said there are over 200 IDs that are uncollected from her office.

She added that her office is using area chiefs and their assistants to ensure the owners of the IDs get them.
