A Kakamega County government official has been linked with masterminding the chaos that was witnessed during the launch of Senator Moses Wetangula’s presidential bid, police have said.
The Kakamega County government chief of staff, Daraja Nabwera has been pointed out, after investigations by the police, as one of the main suspects in planning for the violence that disrupted Wetang’ulas rally on April 2nd.
“We had orders in the file that the respondent, Nabwera Daraja appears before police for investigations, which he obeyed. At the moment, we don’t need him but may call him later if need be. We,therefore, request the file be closed,” said Peter Mailenyi, the DPP.
Earlier on, the court had ordered Nabwera to report to the police for five days between 9 in the morning to 5pm to answer on the same.
The chief inspector of police, Richard Cheruiyot requested that the court be given more time, which was granted to question Nabwera on the possibility of preferring war-related charges. However, on Thursday, Mailenyi said an investigation into the violence was still on and the file would be forwarded to the DPP for advice.
Through his advocates led by Laban Anziya, Nabwera had no objection to the prosecution’s decision. On the other hand, Nabwera’s advocates had no objections to the prosecution’s decision.
“We have no objection with that but request that our client be refunded his sh20, 000 cash bail,” said Anziya.
Kimingi ordered the file to be closed and cash bail to be refunded.
