Nyamira County Chief Officer in charge of Health Douglas Bosire has said the county has pumped a lot of money to maternal and child health care to ensure mothers get better services during delivery.

Bosire who spoke Monday during the commissioning of assorted medical equipment donated by the Kenya Red Cross said the county has 100 health facilities, out of which 13 were constructed during Governor John Nyagarama's reign.

He said efforts have been made to ensure residents access medical care within a radius of 3km, adding that those who most in need the facilities to be close to them are expected mothers. 

He noted that the county has prioritised equipping hospitals with maternity equipment and ensuring a medical officers live within the compound to attend to mothers at all time.

"We have equipped our health facilities with maternity requirements to ensure expectant mothers find services closer and freely during delivery," said Bosire.

The county received a Sh15 million donation of maternal and child health equipment aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality by the Global Fund through the Kenya Red Cross Society.
