Thomas Nyang’au, a public health officer in Masaba North Nyamira County has warned residents against buying uninspected meat from butcheries that have no permits to operate.
This comes after a man in Mwalimu village was arrested on Monday for slaughtering an ailing cow before selling meat to locals.
Nyanga’au said residents should not be tricked by traders to buy meat which has not been slaughtered at a slaughterhouse.
“I am appealing to locals to ensure they buy meat from a recognized butchery where meat has been inspected by veterinary officers to curb outbreak of diseases such as anthrax,” said the officer.
He said no one will be allowed to slaughter livestock carelessly in village without a legal permit from veterinary officers.
“Residents should be vigilant and report rogue traders selling bad meat," said the officer.
