Triza Ooro, the Public Health Officer, said the menace has spread in several schools and even homesteads.

“School going kids are the most affected and that the issue must be addressed urgently,” she said.

Speaking at Kamagore primary school while treating over 100 pupils who have been infected with jiggers, Ooro said the type of the soil in the area makes joggers’ spread rapid.

East Seme MCA Aggrey Ogosi who sponsored the exercise said he has asked the public health officials to map out the affected areas and schools so that a major jigger eradication campaign is started in the area.

“Most of the schools around here and even villages are affected with this menace so I want the public health officers to get the correct statistics so that we can intervene,” he said.

Kamagore primary school head, Robert Ochieng, said the jiggers’ infestation in the school has affected many kids adding that it is interfering with their learning.
