Mombasa County registered the lowest turnout of persons in this year’s Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) recruitment.

Recruitment officials expressed their disappointment after residents opted to stay away from the exercise despite high levels of youth unemployment.

Speaking to journalists Lt. David Cheruiyot, confirmed that the county recorded the lowest turnout with female recruits being fewer compared to other regions.

Cheruiyot also said only a few residents met the requirements, as even non locals turned up for the exercise.

“The recruitment guidelines require us to only recruit residents from this region who meet the threshold but most of the people that sought to be enlisted today are non-locals,” said Lt. Cheruiyot, as quoted by Citizen Digital.

“We started in Kisauni then proceeded to Nyali, Changamwe, Jomvu, Mikindani and Mombasa town where the process went on well, but the low numbers are constant in all the sub-counties,” he added.

Mombasa recorded the lowest turnout compared to other parts of the country.
