A politician from Nakuru West has called for increased sporting activities among the youth, in a bid to help promote ethnic cohesion.
Speaking on Monday in Kaptembwa, Dr Erick Ogada, noted that there was need to engage the youth in sports to restrain them from being used by selfish politicians to unleash ethnic based attacks on their neighbours.
“Idle youths are the ones being used to carry out ethnic based attacks by self serving individuals. There is need to keep them engaged in sports, especially in the run up to the national elections set for next year,” said Ogada.
At the same time, Dr Ogada called for the increase in sporting funds saying the two per cent that is currently set aside in the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) was not sufficient.
He reiterated his commitment to supporting local talent in the area, citing the ongoing soccer tournament that he has sponsored.
