An Ogiek elite group in Njoro has criticised Nakuru County Assembly of discrimination aganist resource distribution.
While reacting to the recent sacking of the Nakuru County Assembly deputy speaker Isaac Tonui; Ongiek Peoples Progressive Programme (OPPP) chairman, Kiplagat Cheruiyot, said that the community was dissatisfied by the way the county government and assembly were handling resource distribution in the county.
“The recent sacking of the deputy speaker who was the only member of our community holding a competitive post in the county assembly is a clear indication that the two are discriminating Ogiek community,’’said Cheruiyot.
According to the elite group, the community has for long been marginalized in public resources allocation and services and warned that the group would soon take action against the county assembly's move.
“We will not just seat down and watch what is happening; we have to demand for our rights,” said Cheruiyot.
