Robert Oimeke appointment as director-general of the Energy Regulatory Commission has been confirmed by Energy Secretary Charles Keter.
Oimeke had previously served as the director for the commission has been serving in an acting capacity since the beginning of the year.
According to reports, he is to take up the new role officially as of August 1 and will serve for a period of three years.
Oimeke is a specialist in renewable energy and energy efficiency and brings two decades worth of experience in the energy sector.
He has previously worked with Finlays Kenya Limited and Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) in research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions for the manufacturing and tea sectors in the country.
Oimeke was also a consultant for the World Bank funded multi-agency programme, Lake Victoria Environment Programme implemented in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
He received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Process Engineering at Moi University. He also holds a Diploma in Energy Planning and use from Life Academy in Sweden.
