Residents of Ojolla in Kisumu County have accused the Kenya Power for not responding to emergency situations on time.
The residents who have been in the dark since Monday claim that they have contacted Kenya Power’s emergency line, but nothing has been done up to date.
“We have been calling Kenya Power every now and then and we are told the situation will be handled soon and so far that soon is yet to come. We wonder why they take this long to respond to this problem. For how long are we going to remain in the dark?,” wondered Marion Omundo.
The residents are most annoyed with the power distributor considering that the Nyanza Regional offices are located in Kisumu less than 20km away.
Most businesses that depend on electricity have been shut down and the owners are already feeling the pinch.
“My salon is no longer operational and it being my only source of income, I wonder what I will eat if the Kenya Power people do not come to my rescue any time soon. This is too much,” said Paul Opati salon owner in the area.
Other locals are complaining of travelling long distances to get their phones charged, a situation they say is inconveniencing them a lot.
“In adverts we are told that if there is any problem, we contact Kenya Power’s emergency line to get help immediately, now we wonder if immediately refers to more than four days,” posed Chris Opiyo.
The residents have threatened to walk to Kisumu’s Kenya Power offices to demand services if their situation is not handled any time soon.
