A politician aspirant has dismissed claims that he is planning to be the running mate of Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama in 2017 polls as the race for the seat intensifies.

Mwancha Okioma's representative on Sunday said the former MP is not having an intention of being the governor’s running mate contrary to information doing rounds.

Mr Obwaya said the former Kitutu Masaba legislator will face other candidates for the gubernatorial  seat since he was determined to clinch the post in the next general election.

“I want to dispel fear that Mr Okioma will be someone’s running mate as many prophets of doom are saying. That idea has never even lingered in his mind and therefore that is the creation of some people who are trying to declare him politically irrelevant,” he said.

He urged locals to choose carefully especially the next Nyamira governor and proposed that Mr Okioma was best suited for the seat since he has strong credentials in agriculture which is the backbone of the county.

“Our county is majorly agricultural and if we need a change, we must elect someone with a background in agriculture. Mr Okioma is best suited for that and this is the time to support him,” he said.

Mr Okioma, who also serves in the African Assembly during the ninth parliament, emerged forth in 2013 polls in the hotly contested race.
