Announcing this on Tuesday, the collapse of the initiative, IEBC noted that the valid collected signatures by CORD is less than the required 1 million as some signatures were invalid.

Hassan said that the number of valid registered voters supporting the initiative is 891, 598. The law requires 1 million registered voters’ signatures to amend the constitution. Therefore, CORD did not meet the required number of valid signatures.

In October, 2015 CORD had presented 1.4 million signatures from the registered valid voters who supported the initiative. Since then, IEBC has been verifying only to find 891,598 signatures are valid.
