Nyamira County senator, Okong’o Mong’are, now wants the Kisii County to adhere to the Memorandum of Understanding that was signed by the two counties over border wrangles involving the tow counties in Keroka.

The border dispute in Keroka town took a new twist recently after tax collectors from both sides were involved in a fierce scuffle that led to injuries of a number of them and saw MCA Lawrence Aburi arrested in connection with incitement of Kisii residents against their Nyamira counterparts living in the township.

Speaking at Kiabonyoru Ward on Monday, Mong'are said the two counties had signed a MoU which he claimed had been violated by those from Kisii County.

''We signed a MoU and I wonder why our brothers from Kisii County are being insincere with the border dispute. We must respect the decision we sat down as leaders and made instead of engaging in a useless fight yet this is just a small matter. We have information that our brothers (Kisii County) want full ownership of the town which is ridiculous and unacceptable,'' he said.

According to him, the MoU required Nyamira County to take charge 75% of the town while Kisii County takes charge of 25% with the governors from the respective counties consulting each other before launching projects in the town.

The senator called for tolerance among Keroka town residents and warned tax collectors from Kisii county of dire consequences if they violated the MoU which he claimed those from Nyamira had adhered to.
