Nyamira Senator has vowed to cling to his new position as Public Accounts and Investment Committee chair, terming Minority Chief Whip’s decision to de-whip him as ridiculous and lack of respect.

Senator Mong’are Okong’o was voted as new chair replacing Bonny Khalwale after garnering eight votes to Khalwale’s three in the watchdog committee, but his election lasted few hours after Johnston Muthana replaced him with nominated Senator Agnes Zani.

In an exclusive interview with the reporter on Thursday, Okong’o labeled Muthama a ‘dictator’ and accused the vocal Senator of ‘killing’ the spirit of CORD coalition.

“I was duly elected as Chair and any contrary statement should be ignored by the Senate and the public at large. He (Muthama) is dictatorial and his unwarranted actions are out to kill the spirit of CORD coalition. It’s ridiculous and lack of respect,” he said.

The defiant Senator dismissed claims of working with Jubilee, and insisted on his commitment to fight massive corruption in county government units without fear.

“I am a tested man and my ability is well known. It’s ridiculous for some people to continue associating me with Jubilee. I will never be associated with a coalition that has lost focus on fight against corruption and its time that Muthama respected my presence in CORD. I am ready to fight corruption in county governments as chair of the committee,” he added.

He challenged the Machakos Senator to respect the rule of law and withdraw his statement soonest.

"He (Muthama) should have apologized like yesterday. Trying to revoke an election done by a committee is an infringement to democracy. I am tired of his dictatorship and he should learn to embrace liberalism,” Okong’o said.
