Presidential aspirant Mong’are Okong’o has come into the defense of striking medics insisting that they deserve better remuneration.
For the past 96 –days, Kenyan doctors have been out of their working place, demanding implementation of a 2013 CBA that the government has labeled fake.
But the Nyamira senator, who announced his presidential bid in December, says the government has an obligation to pay its debts.
“Doctors ought to be respected and in line with that, I recommend that they pitch tent in State House,” said Okong’o, who recently supported legalization of Marijuana in the country.
“The government has failed in its responsibility to restore healthcare in the country. Rampant corruption is tolerated yet when people ask for what they were promised, they are jailed,” he added.
In the history of Kenya, this year’s doctor’s strike is the longest industrial action and could cost President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid.
Okong’o, who hails from Gusii, maintains that he is the ideal person to rectify NASA-Jubilee mess in the country.
