Engineer Michael Ezekiel Okonji has been elected as the first president of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).
He takes over from Eng R Kosgei who has finished his second term as chairman.
Eng Okonji, Principal Electrical Engineer, Bison Consulting Engineers had before his election served as the 1st vice chair and a member of the council of the Institution.
He was awarded a BSEE (cum laude) degree in electrical engineering from Harvard University, USA in 1987 and the following year was appointed Chief Electrical and Mechanical Engineer, Ministry of Public Works, a position he held until his retirement from the civil service in 2008.
Eng Okonji is a Registered Engineer with EBK with extensive experience.
Other results announced on April 28, 2016 at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Institution include; Eng Rosemary Wanjiku Kung’u as the 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President - Eng Jane Wanjiru Mutulili, Treasurer - Eng Richard Kipng’etich Arap Chepkwony, and Secretary - Eng Stephen Phanuel Omondi.
The other Council Members include; Eng Samuel Njagi Charagu, Eng Emelda Anyango Odhiambo, Eng Kennedy Wandera Makudiuh, Eng Joseph Odongo Oketch, Eng Geoffrey Kisingula Askari, and Eng John Kipchumba Tanui.
