Kibera MP, Ken Okoth has urged his constituents to maintain peace as the area is their only home.
Okoth made the remarks through his Twitter account after a man was shot by the police during a standoff between the residents and the law enforcers.
It is alleged that the police were responding to a move by a section of the residents to vandalise the railway line, protesting the brutality by police on Cord demonstrators.
"We are asking everyone to focus on peace and not escalate violence in Kibera. This is the only home we have. We want peace," said Okoth.
He also went ahead to appeal to residents to become agents of peace.
“To the Kibera community-fathers, mothers and youth, let us all be agents of peace. We should not allow anyone to destroy our home," said Okoth.
The statement by Okoth received some criticism from some quarters. Those who responded to his tweet said that it was hypocritical of him to call for peace in Kibera yet earlier he was calling for youth to join the protests against IEBC.
"Remember your tweet in the morning. You asked the police to lay down their arms and join hooligans in protesting," replied Duncan Muchiri.
“So Kibera is your home, so is town for other Kenyans," said Mike Chege.
