Speaking on a local television show, Okoth said the move by the parliamentary committee is mistaken as each person has the right to vie for any elective position as long as he qualifies and fulfils the minimum requirements provided for by the constitution.

In a report brought to the parliament by the Constitution Oversight and Implementation Committee, senators are set to be locked out of the governorship race in what senators have termed as a cowardly move meant to ease competition by non-performing parliamentarians.

A number of senators led by Omar Hassan and Kipchumba Murkomen have criticised the move as unreasonable and unrealistic.

In what shall be seen as a supremacy battle, senators have vowed to reverse the motion if it is passed by the national assembly.
